Com o objetivo principal de resgatar a trajetória de três mulheres sesquicentenárias que foram fundamentais para a formação social e cultural de cidades da Paraíba e do Rio Grande do Norte, o livro também se propõe a tornar a história acessível ao grande público. Segundo o autor José André Silva, o maior desafio na escrita foi traduzir o rigor histórico para uma linguagem simples e envolvente. “O desafio é colocar no papel aquilo que você quer que as pessoas entendam, fazer com que o leitor se envolva e se sinta parte da história, como um verdadeiro personagem dela”, afirmou.
Entre as personagens retratadas estão Teresa Maria da Conceição, matriarca de importantes famílias do Seridó; Rosalina Maria da Conceição, filha de senhor de engenho que rompeu padrões sociais ao fugir com um quilombola e se tornou parteira em Santa Luzia; e Aristana de Brito Guerra, primeira professora pública do ensino feminino da cidade, nomeada pelo governo, e protagonista de um episódio histórico envolvendo o cangaceiro Antônio Silvino.
Para José André Silva, a obra vai além da pesquisa histórica e assume um caráter formativo e humanitário. “Muitas pessoas conhecem os avós, mas dos bisavós para trás não sabem nada. O livro levanta essa raiz genealógica e mostra como essas famílias se cruzam e se formam novamente ao longo do tempo. Eu o defino como um opúsculo humanitário”, revelou André.
