Petites Perceptions by Tangram, released 05 March 2022 1. Una 2. Yerku 3. Kolm 4. Quatre 5. Fem 6. Papale 7. Sebeun 8. Huit 9. Nove 10. Deset 11. Sebelas 12. Duodecim 13. Trinaest 14. Hamalau Petite perception (plural petites perceptions (fr): small perceptions) There are many events in our daily lives that we hardly notice, if at all: a familiar smell hits our nose as we hurry down the street, the valve on our bicycle wheel stops exactly vertically, a piece of music ends at the exact moment we arrive, the train bell rings in tune with the street musician singing on the platform. It is these fleeting moments that these fourteen tracks evoke and give musical form to.

Noumenal Eggs | MIRA新伝統
mirashindento.bandcamp.com
Noumenal Eggs by MIRA新伝統, released 17 June 2022 1. Hosting of an Inorganic Demon 2. Disembodiment 3. Noumenal Eggs 4. Chronosis 5. Howling Machines 6. Disembodiment (Ziúr Remix) The post-human reality isn’t all glistening dystopias and cyberpunk fantasies. It’s walking empty Shibuya backstreets with neon lights advertising to nobody, or molten plastic-sediment stones littering the s***line at a Kanagawa eco-trance rave. These are some of the scenes that inspired Tokyo-based duo MIRA新伝統’s latest EP release, Noumenal Eggs —a probing, contorted excavation of sonic composites consisting complex dissonance and rich, evolving textures. Honami Higuchi and Raphael Leray’s latest release follows 2019’s Torque, which was a harrowing 20-minute short film and soundtrack marking the physical and psychological effects of *** abuse and trauma. The piece was adapted from an hour-long performance that combined Japanese c***ographer Honami’s confronting enactments of *** and her experience of *** work, alongside French expat producer Leray’s haunting ambient compositions. Together the piece mapped out the violence and subsequent disidentification the artist endured, while trying to cope with the drive of an industry at odds with her own humanity. While the Torque project supported Honami in healing from the injuries of the past and the severe depressive episodes of the present, Noumenal Eggs carries these distressing themes of Otherness and the body as merely a resource in a consumer economy towards the broader context of the post-Capitalocene. Deleuze and Guattari’s “desiring machines” resonate through the serpentine rumble of Leray’s lurching, fractured sound on “Howling Machines”. Honami’s guttural shrieks reverberate with the alienation of pandemic-era visits to bankrupt commercial buildings in “Hosting of Inorganic Demon”. That track draws on the weird and eerie world of Iranian philosopher Reza Negarestani’s theory-fiction, where sentient geographical regions and demonic natural resources are their own autonomous entities. Using mostly FM and wavetable synthesis, the crackle and clatter of “Chronosis” emulates the feeling and fracture of time folding and space compressing like its own reverb, in what MIRA新伝統 calls “a muffled and backward spatial sensation”. Musical counterparts include the hard and fractured compositions of Ziúr, who contributes a remix of “Disembodiment” to the EP. Then there’s the influence of SOPHIE’s tactile textures and gendered vocal play—Leray sings the high notes on the aforementioned track, and Honami does the low and gurgling ones everywhere else. Coil, Psychic TV, Markus Popp and no wave icon Ikue Mori all leave their subtle marks on the gritty contingency of the release’s post-industrial noise. The Noumenal Eggs cover image comes from Swiss artist Maya Hottarek, photographed by Joelle Neuenschwander. An alien-green sculpture, slick with an oily glaze, resonates with an object that exists outside of human perception. Its unfamiliar form suggests alternative futures and a new nature beyond the imagination, as defined by the late-k-punk cultural theorist Mark Fisher: “we must produce something that doesn’t yet exist and about which we cannot know how and what it will be.”

Giz gigs, cheers Policy EP, released 05 November 2011 1. Suggestion Box 2. Pistachios 3. *** Scenes, Tongue Rest 4. In A Huff With Tantrums Doxy recorded a four track EP in a shed in a sea of bungalows with a cul de sac on two wet Mondays, one with April showers and one without, over 14 hours in Hive Studios, Kilcoole, Co.Wicklow with Eoin Whitfield from the band Enemies. Links Doxy - Pistachios (www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxlFgPYRj1w). Doxy -In A Huff With Tantrums (www.youtube.com/watch?v=82L76ejCrBw) blackro@tcd.ie From www.anewbandaday.com Doxy: Trademark Headwear Needed 29 SEPTEMBER 2011 WRITTEN BY JOE SPARROW I’m pinning the Hopes Of A Nation on Doxy, a brilliantly upbeat and stupendously charming band from Kilcoole. Doxy told me that they thought their favourite song was Pistachios, but I respectfully disagree – it’s actually the dizzyingly poised, endlessly delicate Suggestion Box: I often wonder how a song as airy, seamless and fully-formed as this one comes about – they seem beamed in from elsewhere, the band merely a conduit. Perhaps that’s how it actually came together. Maybe we’ll never know. Maybe we never should. From goldenplec.com/policy-policy-ep/ Review: Doxy – Policy EP IN REVIEWS / BY KEVIN DONNELLAN / ON AUGUST 15, 2012 AT 2:28 PM / Remember when discovering a band came with an air of mystery? Seeing a group play live and having to walk around asking other people at the gig who this great support act were? Or hearing a song once – just once – on the radio (generally the old, *** Phantom) and not resting til you discovered who came up with this piece of genius? And from there on you would be evangelical about said band. Telling everyone you knew about them until they either made it, in which case you could rest easy, or they sank without a trace, allowing you to bemoan how unfair the music industry was. Maybe you don’t remember that, maybe these are the rose-tinted rantings of child of the eighties. Of course we can still discover new bands, but there isn’t a challenge to it anymore. Don’t know who the band are on stage? A quick google search will sort that out. Hadn’t heard that song before? Shazam away. Want to tell everyone about your news favorite band? Facebook and tweet away complete with link to their album. It’s a fool’s game trying to decide whether this new landscape for consuming music is better or worse – it’s just different – but sometimes it’s easy to get nostalgic. Which in a roundabout way brings us to a debut E.P from Wicklow band Doxy, which is currently available for free download. Getting the E.P out to the public is no bother at all anymore. There’s no handing out CD’s, rationing the amount you give to the mother because you know she’s not going to be giving them to anyone with more than a polite interest in the band. It’s easier and better than it was and yet it’s still as hard as ever to gain any traction. How many links do you click on a day? How many articles or video do you read or watch or half-read and half-watch? How often do you actually listen to a brand new E.P by a new, unknown act from start to finish? And there’s so much to listen to? Is it that there are more bands now or just more ways we hear about them? Where do we start? Like eating an elephant, the trick is to tackle it one bite at a time. So Doxy; how are they? They’re promising. You can project all sorts of fantasies onto a band from their debut release: imaging what they could be like. It’s one of the best things about listening to new music. And what could be imagined with these four lads from Wicklow? You could imagine lead vocalist Robert Black’s vocals being spat out to great acclaim in a small, sweaty club, his muttered, punkish delivery undercut by a pleasing fragility. You could imagine the guitar work that delivers five compact, well structured tracks escalating into imaginative jams when played live. You could imagine a lot of people being very pleased they went to see Doxy play live. So go listen to Doxy when you get a chance. There’s a lot of new music out there to get through but these lads from Kilcoole are as good a place to start as anywhere.Lovely, excellent, and wistful. From:www.eyeseesound.tv Edition 3 ''Doxy sound like they were influenced by the best bits of the early 80s.... raw energy, intelligent melodies and lyrics and the rough round the edges sound of the Wedding Present". From: Music Review Unsigned October 2011 "Delivered in a way that would make Postman Pat happy, this takes the biscuit". From: Music Review Unsigned December 2012 Doxy ::: Policy EP Louise Wood 10.12.12 Doxy are a recently formed, four-piece guitar band who have just released their debut self-titled EP which features five songs. The band is best described as being a mix of indie, alternative and rock with a punk-like edge.   Suggestion Box is a really catchy tune and is reminiscent of up-tempo bands like Vampire Weekend. Pistachios features powerful drums and melodic guitars, and has a good chorus with intriguing lyrics such as, “haunted house of a brain”. *** Scenes, Tongue Rest is another up-tempo, audibly pleasing song along the lines of The Strokes and is my pick of the featured tracks. In A Huff with Tantrums has excellent guitars and bass and has an edgy punk sound as well as thought-provoking lyrics like, “for the heart has its reason, which reason knows nothing of”. No Kissing is the last of the five songs on the EP and calls to mind alternative giants such as The Smiths. Each of the songs provoke foot-tapping of the best kind.   For a debut EP, it is rather good and features unique vocals along with excellent instruments. All in all, it is an enjoyable listen and is available for immediate download in MP3, 320, or FLAC from http://www.Policy.bandcamp.com Introducing Doxy February 8, 2013. Doxy are a four-piece band from Kilcoole, Co Wicklow who released their debut EP, Policy late last year. Sounding like they have been influenced by a whole host of mid ’80s British indie acts (particularly The Wedding Present plus others of that ilk), their debut EP is probably best summed up as a bit indie, a bit alternative rock and a bit rough around the edges. Across the five track EP, recorded with Eoin Whitfield from Enemies in Kilcoole last year, they deliver a series of charming songs with catchy melodies, smart lyrics and played with energy. A special mention must be reserved for the vocals which are both unusual and unique, spat out with a certain sense of fragility, they increase the endearing quality of the music ten fold. What’s on offer here isn’t perfect but that is part of the appeal, their rough around the edges approach adds to the overall appeal. Not only is there the untempered potential for more but it is far more personal and genuine. You can download their self-titled debut EP for free here and make up your own mind.
