DESPITE STRAIGHT LINES-PhotoBlog: WILDERNESS (10 of 10) - HOMEWARD BOUND, WILDERNESS (10 of 10) HOMEWARD BOUND In my minds eye I can picture us all together on the pier once more as a myriad of treasured memories flood my mind like the return of the evening tide over golden sands, as I tread the wooden boards towards the watery horizon. Overhead the glorious cacophony of vibrant blue and grey-white hues turn the skyscape into a painting of sorts, a regular sight in this, my spiritual homeland. The pier has changed in dimensions over the years, the walk has lengthened and warning signs have long since replaced common sense for the foolish of mind and deeds, But the beauty and essence of this favoured haunt of ours remain, a place to lose oneself to fanciful notions of grandeur, and dreams or contemplation, a place where daily, fishermen patiently sit and wait for playful nibbles from inquisitive fish, or the capture of crabs in local Chinese pots. The wind ***s across the weathered wood limbs, conveying contented seagulls, who home in on unsuspecting tourist lunch boxes and steal a bite to eat before sailing on the glorious vectors, for the sheer Joie de vivre it seems to me at least. A cherished location where our hearts and minds so often wander, in the town that for us has such an eternal charm and significance. Moonlit walks in silence, no need for lips to convey the beauty that our eyes already rejoice in, a mother's loving hands intertwined with the daughter who planted the seeds for emigration to a better land and life. Now, eyes gazing at the watery reflection of that amazing sky as we reminisce on times spent at this very spot when you were still here amongst us. Plans for the future, memories from the past, dreams lived as chapters from the book of our lives. How time fly's by as our years and waistlines inevitably increase. It seems as though it were only yesterday that your heart was filled with Christmas joy, family gatherings and the prospect of an Easter rendezvous with this annoying son in law from across the big old pond. But life changes for better or for worse in the blink of an eye, and we must never take for granted that which we hold closest in our hearts. Memories precious can never be taken from us, and although we are apart, you are always with us, and we laugh together in our dreams. This is a significant frame and location in my life with which to say goodbye for a short while to my friends who so graciously give their time in visiting and commenting on my work here. The pier in Beautiful Sidney by the sea on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada where our family live, and where we are headed for a much needed vacation and some time to nestle amidst Mother nature's most magnificent wonder and beauty. This piece of writing is dedicated to the memory of Margaret Patricia Burtenshaw, my beloved Mother in law who was born on April 5th 1928 and so unexpectedly passed away on December 23rd 2006 in Sidney, the town she lived in and so loved. She too loved this pier and shortly I'll be standing on those wooden beams amidst glorious sunrise and sunset moments, remembering all of the good times that were had by all, and will be again. I'll see you all some time in late September and wish you all fun and happiness with your photographic endeavours. There will be a few posts during my time away, and I will try to visit some of you from Canadian soil, so please excuse any delays as I'll be very busy shooting frames in the wilderness.
