Kevin Congdon and his team came out to do one thing this season, become champions. Team 505 Offshore Racing did just that.
Behind the wheel was John Coen Jr, son of John Coen of Superboat powerboats, and the the throttle was Fast Eddie Simmons. These two have much history together with many years of racing behind them.
Kevin was able to put a team together that was just about unbeatable. The team was to compete in 8 races this season. The first race of the season was a disappointment as it was cancelled due to high water levels on Lake Hopatcong. Yes, this was a disappointment for a season opener, but it did not discourage them from forging forward.
Next stop was Lake Ozark, MO, where the took 1st place and then again took 1st place in Atlantic City, NJ. With about month off from racing, it was time to travel to St Clair, MI, in which 2nd place was taken. Seems as though 2nd place was unacceptable for this team, and the finished up the season taking 1 st place in Port Huron & Detroit, MI. It appeared as there was no stopping them going into the National title race in Solomons, and stop they did not! John & Eddie brought home the National title with yet another 1st place win in Class 5. Out of the 12 boats they ran against for the 2014 season only 1 boat was able to beat them all season. With such a feet of six 1st place victories and one 2nd place finish, the highest of honors in OPA has been bestowed on to Kevin and his team in achieving the highest points in OPA Racing thus making them the 2014 OPA High Points Champion.
But it's not over yet, one more race to go. The OPA world championships. This championships was a culmination of points from racing on Saturday & Sunday. Both days of racing where full length races with full points awarded for each day. And to not dissappoint, Team 505 took 1st on both days giving them the 2014 OPA World Championship in Class 5.
It was one great season for this team and are ready to do a little tune up on the boat and get ready for the 2015 season!
