Filipino American Music | Poptimes Magazine - Home
Poptimesmagazine is the only source for Filipino-American Music News, it is the biggest fil-am music forum and community, it is also the home of hundreds of independent music artists, NEW YORK– Americans have all sorts of parties to celebrate special events that are broadcast on television. There is the Superbowl Party celebrating the final game between the two best teams in pro American football. There is also the Oscar Party celebrating the broadcast of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences Awards night. There are many others like these in the American calendar when fans gather to watch these events while munching on their favorite morsels and ing themselves with booze. It is as if people would find every excuse to party, which is needless to say, a good thing, especially in economically challenging times like this. In recent years, there is a kind of party that is gaining momentum among a significant size of the population: Pac Party. Pac Party is the almost annual indoor gathering of Filipino-American boxing fans watching the greatest boxer of our time, Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines, destroy his latest opponent. This party, is every bit as festive and perhaps the most gastronomically abundant sports/television party to date., NEW YORK– Soulworks is once again bringing in the holidy spirit by offering a free all-original holiday compilation al entitled The Rocky Yuletide Collection. The al was first made available by the label for free download in 2005 and since then has maintained teh tradition of having this great collection available to all. Some of the best artsts in the scene are in this al : The Kuwagos, John Flor Sisante, Archie D, Trickbag, Binky Bianca, Sodapp , The Hppy ogues, John Limguangco. Bleud, Sheryl and The Astrids, Tony Murgola, to name a few., NEW YORK– After a short stint as a three-piece rock group, one of the most respected bands in the music scene, The Kuwagos, are a quartet once again. The band introduced their new b ist Jeff Wiley at a recent gig at Fontana's New York City last November 20. Mr. Wiley has long been affiliated with the band–even jamming with them a number of times in the past so it did not come as a surprise to their fans when front man Gatchie Ignacio announced their newest member., On September 26, 2009, Metro Manila and its nearby areas in the Philippines were hit by the worst natural calamity in over 40 years. Typhoon Ondoy ed at least 280 people and displaced thousands of residents as it dropped the largest amount of rainfall since 1967, flooding almost 90 percent of Metro Manila and parts of Central and Southern Luzon,a s well as areas in Rizal province. Flood waters over 10 feet ripped through neighborhoods sweeping houses and destroying lives. It was a catastrophe never before seen in an already  typhoon and flood prone country. In light of this extreme disaster, Poptimes Magazine, the premiere Filipino-American music magazine, along with Soulworks Records, The Filipino Express, Ugnayan ng Mga Anak ng Bayan, and the Damayan Migrant Workers Organization put up a series of fundraising concerts called Flood Aid in New York City to aid the countless victims of this natural calamity. , NEW YORK– Fresh off her Fall college tour, Bergenfield singer/songwriter ALFA is all set to celebrate the release of her highly-praised debut LP "Second Skin" on Friday, December 11th! I'd love to invite you to cover her full-band event, which begins 8 pm at Sidewalk Cafe (94 Avenue A., NYC). Alfa is a 24-year-old independent artist considered "the best female singer-songwriter in the New York and New Jersey Asian-American music scene” by the New York In Music Examiner. She's toured nationally multiple times since starting her career in 2004, sharing the stage with The Rembrandts, Kitchie Nadal, P ion, Kevin So and others along the way.
