The Colorimetrix test ***yser is an app that turns any smartphone into a portable spectrophotometer, allowing semi-quantitative measurement of colorimetric test strips or solutions. It uses the smartphone’s camera to automatically read commercial and research colorimetric tests, using an ingeniously designed mathematical algorithm. The test results may be stored on the smartphone, ***ysed for trends or emailed / uploaded to the cloud. The smartphone app measures electromagnetic radiation from the coloured test zones with the complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) sensor present in the smartphone camera. The algorithm processes the colour information as concentrations of the ***ytes in each test zone and then the app displays the corresponding value on the smartphone screen. The sensitivity of the colorimetric measurement is based on the accuracy of the camera’s CMOS sensor, colour uniformity of the colorimetric reactions and the number of calibration points. Colorimetrix can be used with dipsticks, lateral-flow tests as well as colorimetric tests in solution. These tests are typically read by spectrophotometers or microplate readers (e.g. Bradford protein assay). The Colorimetrix app was designed to quantify colorimetric tests, providing *** on-site screening when there is lack of equipment, fast responses are needed, and connectivity is required.
